Why is OHISO popular with tourists and locals?

There are many reasons why. But the main reason is our expertise in selecting ingredients and cooking them with great love and care. We use only the best quality products shipped directly to us daily from reliable producing areas. We are especially passionate about sea urchins (uni) from Rishiri and other regions. We also offer rare fish from Hokkaido and seasonal delicacies, such as asparagus from Biei and Hidaka. Our skilled chefs make these ingredients even more delicious by turning them into delightful dishes. You can enjoy all the flavors of Hokkaido to your heart's content.

  • Extra effort to enrich the taste of sea urchins
    OHISO is famous for its additive-free saltwater Ezo Bafun Uni (short-spined sea urchins). It's not just the quality of the product that makes it so delicious. We put an extra effort into it: drain the water in the sea urchins overnight to maximize their rich flavor. The intense deliciousness of our sea urchins is extraordinary!
  • Selecting rice from the best producing areas and cooking it the right way
    We use Nanatsuboshi rice from Rangetsu and Haboro, which, as we found out, goes perfectly with seafood. We soak washed rice overnight in the refrigerator and then cook it in a gas cooker. We take special care to serve rice at the right temperature in order to bring out the best flavors of the seafood on top of it.
  • Dried fish and a la carte dishes also made in-house
    At OHISO, we also make dried fish and miso pickles by hand. Miso soup that comes with rice bowls and set meals is prepared with dashi stock made from Rishiri kelp for a rich flavor. Our House-made Crab Gratin is a masterpiece cooked from scratch by one of our chefs who used to work at a western-style restaurant. Croquettes and curry are very popular as well.

Located at the corner of Minami 2-jo Dori and Nakamachi Dori, OHISO's flagship store stands out in the crowded Nijo Fish Market. Open early in the morning, remains open until 22:00 on weekdays. Seafood bowls (kaisen-don) are also available for take-out.
